Whenever the summer approaches, most of us plan to spend our time with our families by the pool as that’s a brilliant idea to enjoy life in the hottest of months.
Since it’s warm weather, we tend to sweat a lot and there’s someone who’s attracted to those sweats we produce so much that they’ve been named after sweat, the sweat bees!
These tiny bees may look cute and harmless but they certainly pose risks around your pool. If you’re also planning to spend your time there anytime soon, you should know about some of those risks.
Here are seven ways a sweat bee can ruin your family’s pool safety that will hopefully give you reasons to make efforts to keep them away from the pool!
1 – Total Chaos & Distraction
And this is the worst by far!
Imagine your kids running around the pool and having fun until these unwelcoming guests arrive. Now they’re focusing a lot more on keeping themselves safe from them instead of carrying on with the activities they were early on.
In an attempt to make these sweat bees away from them, these kids can take some inappropriate ways which can even cause accidents like them slipping or falling.
If you are an adult, you’re not safe either as you’ll end up focusing a lot more on keeping them away from you instead of doing your main responsibility which could be monitoring the pool party, supervising children and alike.
2 – Kids Can Get Stung
Following up on our previous point about how these bees can cause great chaos among kids, they can even sting them.
Kids tend to run around the pool a lot more and as a result will generate sweats in a decent magnitude therefore making themselves more appealing and enticing to bees – so much so that they can even sting them.
Even though their stings are not as aggressive and harmful as some other bees, that’s enough to cause your kids pain and allergic reaction especially if they’re sensitive ones.
Your kids can even smash these bees and from there, things can get a lot worse like their stinger getting in or if there’s a failed attempt, they bees can retaliate.
3 – Allergic Reactions
You never know who is allergic to sweat bees sting in the group of people you’re spending your time with. Now, once again, while sweat bees sting are a lot less severe in comparison to wasps or honeybees, they can still trigger allergic reactions in those people which may include swelling, redness, itching and even Anaphylaxis which is a life threatening condition that demands immediate medical attention.
If someone in your group is allergic, they must be especially vigilant when These sweat bees are wandering around the pool.
4 – Landing On Your Food & Drinks
Just like any other bee we can think of, sweat bees can also smell food, rush towards them and even land on them and from there it generates even the indigestion risk.
This can especially be dangerous for the younger ones who can take a small chunk of something inside their mouth without noticing the bee on it and if they accidentally swallow them, that’ll worsen their health and cause sickness.
While chewing their food, they can even chew the bee which was on the meal that will lead to potential stings that can cause really unpleasant problems like swelling or difficulty in breathing.
5 – Fear Of Being Attacked
Most of us are afraid of bees with or without any reason, we feel uncomfortable and would rather enjoy our time in a small room with no bees than being in an environment that gives fresh air and a long area to explore.
This creates stress among people which makes it extremely challenging to enjoy the time which was the initial goal.
Imagine inviting your friends and family members only to have it all ruined by a swarm of sweat bees leaving everyone with a horrible experience that lingers in memory for a long time.
6 – They May Nest In Pool Equipment
This should come up as a surprise to many of you but they could seriously be this much annoying at times and nothing’s stopping them from nesting in pool equipment such as pumps and filters which can mess up the entire functionality of the system.
Once either of the critical parts have been damaged, you’ll have no choice but to spend in maintenance and repair which will lead to the downtime for the pool.
And don’t forget, these damaged equipment create safety risks. If a bee nest is located near a pump pool, that can cause a short circuit and as a result, you might see fire or electrical shock.
7 – Sweat Bees Landing On Swimmers
It’s worth a reminder that sweat bees are named for their attraction to sweat and nothing makes them content than finding people in perspiration.
If you’ve just got done swimming, the mixture of sweat and water left on your skin will send invitations to bees to come and land on you which is extremely uncomfortable.
Conclusion
Sweat bees can pose a great threat to your family’s pool safety which can take away the enjoyment and well-being of everyone involved around the pool.
From causing total chaos and distraction, to the risk of stings and allergic reactions, sweat bees can quickly ruin a fun-filled day by the pool.
It is important that we acknowledge some of these associated risks and take actions to keep them away from the pool so we can have a safer and more enjoyable experience.
